Frans Bouwen

Frans Bouwen is the Founder and Director responsible for External Relations at the international foundation The Hague Process on Refugees and Migration (THP since 2000). THP is a catalyst and stimulator for the development of innovative refugee and migration approaches, and seeks to connect various stakeholders – particularly business companies with cities – that have an interest in the field, and aspiring to facilitate a creative space for dialogue.

Before founding THP, Mr. Bouwen served as Senior Consultant for external and strategic relations with the Society for International Development (SID) and the Dutch Refugee Council. He also served as Executive Secretary of the joint World Council of Churches and Conference of European Churches “European Churches Working Group on Asylum and Refugees” in Geneva, Switzerland, and as Consultant to the World Council of Churches’ Commission of the Churches on International Affairs in New York and Geneva.

Since February 2015, Mr. Bouwen has served as a Senior Advisor to The Hague Institute for Global Justice. His work focuses on issues related to cities and conflict prevention.

Mr. Bouwen holds a MA of Theology from the State University of Leiden, The Netherlands (1982) and is Graduate of the Bossey Ecumenical Graduate School Geneva, Switzerland (1980). Mr. Bouwen has two daughters and one grandson.
